Pharaoh Temple No. 183 – A Legacy of Commitment and Service
Established: December 2022
Location: Oasis of Rock Island Army Arsenal
Affiliation: Ancient Egyptian Arabic Order Nobles Mystic Shrine (AEAONMS)
History and Formation
Pharaoh Temple No. 183 was officially chartered in December 2022 as part of an effort to strengthen and sustain Prince Hall Shrinedom in the Desert of Iowa. The temple was founded by dedicated Nobles who sought to uphold the traditions of Masonic brotherhood, service, and leadership.
The foundation for Pharaoh Temple No. 183 was laid in 2020 with the leadership of Honorable John T. Chapman, the 44th Imperial Potentate of AEAONMS. During his tenure, structural changes were implemented to improve administrative oversight, including the introduction of new Imperial Appointments such as Chief Imperial Deputy of Desert and Regional Deputy.
As part of these changes, Regional Deputy Frank Joshua was assigned to Region Four, covering Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Nebraska, and Wisconsin. His leadership focused on addressing financial obligations and enhancing organizational efficiency within the Desert of Iowa.
Reorganization and the Path Forward
By 2021, after careful review and discussions, a recommendation was made to consolidate the Deserts of Nebraska and Iowa. This decision, approved on May 27, 2021, was aimed at creating a more unified and sustainable structure. As with any significant transition, challenges arose, including the need for clear communication and strategic planning.
During the 2021 Imperial Session in Philadelphia, key Imperial officers met to evaluate the future of Shrinedom in Iowa. These discussions laid the groundwork for revitalization efforts, ensuring that Nobles in the region had a strong foundation for continued service and growth.
In early 2022, as changes continued to unfold, members in Iowa remained committed to preserving and expanding Prince Hall Shrinedom. Recognizing this dedication, Regional Deputy Frank Joshua took steps to support a new temple structure. His efforts led to the establishment of Pharaoh Temple No. 183, which received its official charter in December 2022.
